Alpha Lipoic Acid is a
product that treats many age-related diseases, from heart disease and stroke to diabetes and cataracts, keeping nerves healthy, potential benefits for tinnitus sufferers, and generally slowing down the aging process. Alpha lipoic acid is a potent and versatile antioxidant may some day be seen as a vital supplement. Although there have been hundreds of studies over 40 years revealing how alpha lipoic acid energizes metabolism, the new excitement about this vitamin-like substance can be seen in the many recent studies focusing on how alpha lipoic acid improves the physique, combats free radicals, protects our genetic material, slows aging, and helps protect against heart disease, cancer and many other diseases. Alpha lipoic acid has excellent potential in the area of tinnitus and ear ringing because of it’s abilities in rejuvinating nerve cells. Alpha lipoic acid is an ingredient found in both Ring Stop, and HearAll tinnitus products.

Scientists first discovered the importance of Alpha Lipoic Acid in the 1950s, and recognized alpha lipoic acid as an antioxidant in 1988, but only recently has alpha lipoic acid made its way into American health-food stores. Very potent and versatile, Alpha Lipoic acid is apparently a very special antioxidant. It has been the subject of a tremendous amount of basic research around the world, some being done at UC Berkeley by Dr. Lester Packer, a leading expert on antioxidants, and their importance to the human body.
The body needs Alpha lipoic acid to produce energy, and our body actually makes enough Alpha Lipoic acid for basic metabolic functions. Alpha lipoic acid acts as an antioxidant, however, only when there is an excess of it and it is in the "free" state in the cells. But, there is no free Alpha Lipoic acid circulating in the body, unless it is consumed via supplements, or injected. Except for yeast and liver, foods contain only tiny amounts of Alpha lipoic acid. What makes alpha lipoic acid so special as an antioxidant is that it helps deactivate a wide array of fat- and water-soluble free radicals in many bodily systems. In particular, Alpha lipoic acid may also help protect our DNA - genetic material. Alpha lipoic acid is also important because it works closely with vitamins C and E and other antioxidants, "recycling" them and thus making them much more effective.
Alpha Lipoic acid (lipoic acid) is a universal anti-oxidant itself that works in both fatty and watery regions of cells to quench free radicals. Alpha lipoic acid specifically helps to recycle other antioxidants, including vitamins E and C, Co-Q10, and glutathione, extending their metabolic life. (Packer L, et al. Alpha lipoic acid as a Biological Antioxidant. Free Radical Biol Med 1995; 19(2); 227-50). Since 1951, alpha lipoic acid has been recognized as a coenzyme necessary for carbohydrate metabolism in the biochemical reaction known as the citric acid cycle. Based on American research showing alpha lipoic acid increases glucose burning, alpha lipoic acid is medically approved in Germany to treat adult onset diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) and its complications. Because alpha lipoic acid is a sulphur compound, alpha lipoic acid can bind and help eliminate heavy metals such as copper, iron, mercury and cadmium; risk factors for a wide range of degenerative diseases. In German studies of Type II diabetes (NIDDM), alpha lipoic acid has shown promise, as well as in cataract studies at the University of California at Berkeley and in cardiovascular studies concerned with LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. Although research on Alpha Lipoic acid is still in its infancy, Alpha Lipoic acid is currently being studied, and already marketed as a preventive and/or treatment for many age-related diseases, from heart disease and stroke to diabetes and cataracts.
The dietary supplement alpha lipoic
acid supports glucose metabolism and offers protection against free
radical damage to support immune system function.* Alpha Lipoic Acid
is a vitamin-like antioxidant that is produced naturally in the
body. As a free radical scavenger, it is unique because it is both
fat and water soluable. It is easily absorbed and transported across
cell membranes offering protection (against free radicals) both
inside and outside the cell. Other antioxidants only provide extra
cellular protection. Our ALA is Vegetarian.
Each capsule contains 100 mg Alpha Lipoic Acid.
Other ingredients: rice flour, vegetable stearate.
As a dietary supplement, take 1 capsule, 1 to 3 times daily, with a
meal.* This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug
Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat,
cure, or prevent any disease.
