CoQ10 for treatment of Tinnitus

It is claimed by some that the action of coq10 on the immune system is profound. Coq10 promotes bioenergetic processes in the human immune cells. Co-Q10 (2,3 dimethyl-5 methyl-6-decaprenyl benzoquinone) is an endogenous antioxidant found in small amounts in meats and seafood. Although coq10 is found in all human cells, its highest concentrations occur in the heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas. It is found naturally in the organs of many mammalian species. Coq10 can be synthesized in vivo [in a living body]. Situations may arise, however, when the need for coq10 surpasses the body's ability to synthesize it. Coq10 is well absorbed by oral supplementation as evidenced by significant increases in serum coq10 levels after supplementation. CoQ10, due to the involvement in ATP [cellular energy] synthesis, affects the function of all cells in the body, making it essential for the health of all human tissues and organs. Coq10 particularly affects the cells that are the most metabolically active: heart, immune system, gingiva, and gastric mucosa.

Fred Crane, M.D., from the University of Wisconsin, who isolated it from beef hearts, discovered Coq10 in 1957. The research was carried out by Dr. Karl Folkers. Dr. Folkers became interested when his next-door neighbor with terminal metastatic lung cancer started taking coq10 and had a complete remission. It is believed by proponents that cancer patients lack coq10 in their blood. Folkers reported several case histories of cancer patients with prolonged survival on therapy with coq10. However, there has been insufficient evidence until recently demonstrating that coenzyme Q (coq10) is an effective treatment for cancer. More recent findings substantiate the view that supplementation with coq10 can cause complete regression of tumors in advanced breast cancer, including one patient with numerous metastases to the liver. Mechanisms in cancer include immune system enhancement and antioxidant activity. There is some evidence of coq10 being effective in treating some side effects of cancer treatment, e.g. heart (cardiac) toxicity from chemotherapy, yet, coq10 may be harmful for patients receiving radiation therapy due to its anti-oxidant properties.

Up until recently, no one heard much about coq10, but that doesn’t diminish its importance to your body. Coq10 supplement will help you maintain proper coq10 levels in your body. Coq10 is an important naturally occurring antioxidant that is necessary for cellular energy production. The more energy you burn, the more coq10 your body needs from your diet. In addition to being an important antioxidant, it is also critical to maintaining a healthy cardiac system, supporting healthy gums, and is an integral part of your immune system. Some studies indicate that it may assist in helping you control your weight. Although our bodies naturally produce coq10, as we age we need to obtain more and more of our coq10 from our diets. In order to ensure that you have sufficient coq10 in your daily diet, include coq10 as part of your regular nutritional supplementation routine. More discoveries about the importance of coq10 are on the horizon, as the medical and research community learn more.

Coq10 is a nontoxic natural substance that reduces the damage done to the heart by the chemotherapy agent Adriamycin and may increase its antitumor activity. Coq10 also protects the liver from the toxic effects of various chemotherapy drugs. There has been some evidence that coq10 has efficacy when used in combination with other cancer treatments to ameliorate harmful side effects of those treatments (refer to proponent claims/beliefs section). However, it should be noted that coq10 has not been proven effective as a cancer treatment in itself. It has been recommended that people undergoing chemotherapy take 300mg of Coq10 daily.

Groups of tumors that received coq10 and radiotherapy had a significantly lower specific growth delay (SGD) than the radiotherapy-only groups. It may prove to be that systemic coq10 reduces the response to single dose tumor irradiation in xenotransplanted human SCLS (small-cell lung cancer) tumors. The magnitude of this potentially adverse effect of coq10is dose-dependent. Experimental data justifies a warning against concurrent use of coq10 during radiotherapy.

One research article showed that coq10 produces no toxic effect in animal models, while another research document indicated that adverse reactions to Co-Q10 includes anorexia, diarrhea, epigastric discomfort, ischemic tissue damage - due to a deficiency in blood in a specific part of the body (during intense exercise), and mild nausea.

According to Dr. Julian Whitaker, coq10 is the most powerful treatment of cardiomyopathy available. He states that it increases the survival rate of cardiomyopathy patients tenfold, compared to the combined therapy of ACE inhibitors, diuretics and digitalis drugs. Several coq10 trials showed the gradual and sustained improvement in
the blood pumped out of the heart as well as improvement in fatigue, chest pain and palpitations. Coq10 is known to be highly concentrated in heart muscle cells due to the high energy requirements of this cell type. For the past 14 years, the great bulk of clinical work with coq10 has focused on heart disease. Specifically congestive heart failure has been strongly correlated with significantly low blood and tissue levels of coq10. The severity of heart failure correlates with the severity of coq10 deficiency. This deficiency of coq10 appears to be a treatable factor in the progression of heart failure.
